Floating Plank King Bed | Custom Walnut & Upholstered Bed with Integrated Lighting

Designed for a new construction home in Martis Camp, Truckee, California, this custom king bed makes a simple yet dramatic statement in our client’s primary bedroom. The design features the illusion of floating planks, giving the piece a distinctly airy, modern presence while maintaining a warm, mountain-appropriate material palette.

The bed is upholstered and appears to float on a platform base. A primary headboard includes an inset upholstered cushion and two integrated reading lights for everyday comfort and functionality. Behind it, a dramatic walnut secondary headboard adds architectural depth and is backlit with LED lighting to create a soft, ambient glow. Floating modern nightstands complete the cohesive bedroom set, reinforcing the clean lines and “floating” concept throughout the space.

This bedroom suite was co-designed by Emily Esposito and Keith Kelly of Kelly & Stone Architects and brought to life by Emily Roose Interiors as part of a larger full-service residential interior design project.
