Floating Plank King Bed | Custom Walnut & Upholstered Bed with Integrated Lighting

Designed for a new construction residence in Martis Camp, Truckee, California, the Floating Plank King Bed is a custom-designed centerpiece created by Emily Roose Interiors as part of a full-service interior design project. The piece reflects a modern mountain aesthetic grounded in warmth, material layering, and architectural simplicity.

Defined by a sculptural “floating plank” concept, the design creates the illusion of suspended elements while maintaining a grounded, substantial presence within the room. An upholstered platform base appears to float beneath the primary headboard, which incorporates an inset upholstered cushion and integrated reading lights for comfort and functionality.

Positioned behind it, a secondary walnut headboard introduces depth and material contrast. Concealed LED backlighting creates a soft ambient glow that enhances the layered composition while adding warmth and atmosphere throughout the suite.

Floating nightstands complete the system, reinforcing the clean lines and integrated architectural language of the space. The result is a fully connected bedroom composition that balances modern simplicity with tactile warmth and functional living.

The Floating Plank King Bed reflects Emily Roose Interiors’ approach to custom furniture design—where architectural intent, material contrast, and refined functionality come together to create pieces that feel immersive, sculptural, and deeply livable.
